General FAQs

What services does OMI Biomedics offer?

OMI Biomedics specializes in genetic testing and consulting for monogenic disorders, oncology, and hereditary disease risk assessment.

How do I know if a genetic test is right for me?

We provide a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical genetic tests designed to meet the needs of various populations, including healthy individuals, patients with cancer, and those with complex or challenging-to-diagnose conditions. For a comprehensive overview of the patient profiles applicable to each test, please visit our product pages. If you require further assistance, our team is available to provide guidance.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to get a genetic test?

Depending on the test, you might require a doctor’s referral. Our team is available to discuss your genetic testing options with your healthcare provider. Please contact us for more information.

Can you explain the process of getting a genetic test?

The process begins with an initial consultation to assess whether genetic testing is appropriate for you or your patient’s condition and to identify the most suitable test. Following this, the required sample is collected at a laboratory (we can assist with coordination) and securely sent to our headquarters in Greece. Once the genetic data has been sequenced and analyzed, we will arrange a follow-up consultation with you and/or your healthcare provider to review the results and discuss any relevant findings or recommendations.

How do I send my sample to OMI Biomedics?

Once your test is ordered, you will receive a sample collection kit with comprehensive instructions. The process for returning the sample may vary depending on the country of collection; in some cases, you may send the sample directly, while in others, a healthcare institution may need to facilitate the submission. Our team will contact you to ensure a seamless process tailored to your specific circumstances.

How long does it take to receive genetic test results?

The turnaround time (TAT) for genetic test results varies depending on the specific test. For detailed information on the TAT for your chosen test, please refer to the product pages on our website.

What should I do if I haven’t received my test results within the expected timeframe?

In some cases, additional time may be needed for further sample processing or data analysis to ensure the highest level of accuracy and reliability in your results. If there is a delay, our support team is here to assist you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, and we will provide you with an update on the status of your test along with an estimated completion timeline. Your understanding and patience are greatly appreciated as we work to deliver the most precise outcomes.

Does insurance cover the cost of genetic testing?

Coverage for genetic testing varies depending on your insurance provider and the specific test being performed. We recommend checking with your insurance company before proceeding.

What payment options are available if my insurance does not cover the test?

We offer various payment plans and options for patients paying out-of-pocket. Please contact us to arrange a personalized payment plan that works best for you.
